The above images tells you a lot about what is happening with the website and server settings. What I will do first is optimize the website using the following tutorial speed Up Suffusion and WordPress.

I added the following to my .htaccess file.

mod_gzip_dechunk Yes
mod_gzip_item_include file .(html?|txt|css|js|php|pl)$
mod_gzip_item_include handler ^cgi-script$
mod_gzip_item_include mime ^text/.*
mod_gzip_item_include mime ^application/x-javascript.*
mod_gzip_item_exclude mime ^image/.*
mod_gzip_item_exclude rspheader ^Content-Encoding:.*gzip.*
</ifModule>

# BEGIN Keep-Alive

<ifModule mod_headers.c>
Header set Connection keep-alive
</ifModule>

# END Keep-Alive

#Set caching on image files for 11 months
<filesMatch “\.(ico|gif|jpg|png)$”>
ExpiresActive On
ExpiresDefault “access plus 11 month”
Header append Cache-Control “public”
</filesMatch>

<filesMatch “\.(css|js)$”>
